After a long off season for New York Met fans, we finally get a
crack at the team we gave a gift to last season…the
Philadelphia Phillies. Christmas won’t come early again this
year Philly fans. The New York Mets will set out on Tuesday
afternoon to make things right!
I am well aware, painfully well aware, that the Mets blew a 7 game
lead with only 17 left to play in the 2007 regular season.
I am also well aware that the Philadelphia Phillies played very well down the stretch run last September .
However, write it down, starting tomorrow, April 8th, 2008,
the New York Mets will defeat the Philadelphia Phillies. This
will mark the beginning of Willie Randolph and his players paying back
the Shea Stadium faithful for the nightmare that was last season.
I for one cannot wait to resume the Turnpike series….lets go Mets!
(The starting pitchers will be Oliver Perez vs some very old dude for Philly).
El Pukee!!
Lousy! Terrible! Sorry Mets fans, not sure what else to say. Orlando Hernandez, the Mets 5th starter whose age ranges anywhere from thirty nine to being old enough for half price bus fare, flat out stunk . After throwing a simulated game last week that was considered to be pretty dismal, he gave up five runs in three innings today against St. Louis. His fastball topped out at 85 mph, not necessarily a big deal if he had control of his pitches; he didn’t.
The Mets starting rotation seems to be pretty solid from one through four, but the fifth spot is a HUGE question mark. It appears to be a competition between Hernandez (whatever his age may be), and Mike Pelfrey. He also pitched today. I truly wish I could claim he put our minds at ease. No such luck. He was actually worse then Hernandez. Four innings, eight runs, too many hits to count.
I don’t wish to make too much out of a bad day, but still it is troubling. As mentioned, I am pretty satisfied with our top four starters. However, number five is a major concern to me. Lets hope one of the guys steps up.
